JURORS have heard details of an alleged affair between the man accused of the murder of a Southampton teenager and his colleague's wife.
Taking the stand in his own defence Maninder Pal Singh Kohli told Winchester Crown Court how his relationship developed with Carole Dennis.
Kohli told the court he was keen to pay back some of the money he owed her husband James, also known as Jim.
He said it began when he telephoned the Dennis' home and spoke to Carole who told him her husband was out but would be back soon.
Kohli said that they got chatting about Indian cooking and she suggested he could teach her about it.
The court heard that the following day Kohli called around on Mrs Dennis. Questioned by Abbas Lakha QC Kohli Kohli agreed that the relationship had developed into sexual one that day.
Kohli, 41, went on to say that he did not see Mrs Dennis regularly only about eight to ten times.
Mr Dennis had developed suspicions about the relationship, Kohli told the jury this afternoon.
Kohli said he had met Mr Dennis outside the latter's home. He said: "that was when he said he had suspicions. He just said what are you doing here. I said I had come to see you."
Mr Lakha asked: "Did he believe you?"
Kohli answered: "No. He threatened me I will tell your wife and you will lose your job."
Kohli denies the abduction, false imprisonment, rape and murder of Hannah Foster, 17, in March 2003.
