“Money goes an awful long way in India – so does education,” says Christine Browning, one of five trustees of the Hannah Memorial Academy Charitable Trust The Hannah Memorial Academy is free – but providing books and equipment for each pupil costs £40 a year.
While all of the school staff have teaching experience, not all have qualifications. During the winter break they will undertake a four week government teacher training course at the school at a cost of Rs 10,000 (£130 each) The charity’s purpose is purely to fundraise to support the work of the Hannah Memorial Academy.
Its charitable status means that it can reclaim 28 per cent gift aid on most donations.
To make a donation log onto the charity’s website at hannahmemorialacademy.org, e-mail admin@hannahmemorial academy.org or phone 020 8298 5086.
Alternatively, cheques made payable to Hannah Memorial Academy, can be sent to Hannah Memorial Academy, Feversham House, Fitzgerald Road, Thames Ditton, Surrey KT7 0TU.
