Today the Daily Echo’s Beat the Crunch section shows you some ways of easing the cost of the festive season.

- How many times have you bought a present for a youngster only for them to be more interested in the wrapping paper?
Buy the biggest box you can and fill it with balloons and wrap it all up in Christmas paper. Young children will love the huge box, jumping in the balloons and hiding in the empty box afterwards.
- Are you ever left with too many Brussels sprouts, facing turkey sandwiches for days on end and mince pies past their sell-by date?
If so, make sure you plan all your meals over the festive season so you know exactly what you need to buy in advance.
Prepare as many meals in advance as you can and freeze them so you are not tempted to buy extra unnecessary food.
- Turkey breasts can be a cheaper option than buying a whole turkey, especially if you are cooking for a small number of people.
They are cheaper to buy than a turkey and take less time to cook – saving on your fuel bills as well.
