IT took five officers to prise a Southampton teenager out of the dock after he had been convicted of affray.
Shouting that he wanted to comfort his mother who was crying hysterically in the public gallery, the 17-year-old refused to leave.
The defendant, who cannot be named, and another teenager were found guilty of affray, following a violent confrontation outside the Spar shop in Romsey Road, Southampton, in March. They were both remanded in custody. A third teenager, Simon Flood, 18, of Pansy Road, Bassett, Southampton, had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing. The trio will be sentenced on December 22.
Satander Jagpal, the 50-year-old shop manager, and his son Tanjeev Jagpal, 22, both of Chalvington Road, Eastleigh, were acquitted of affray.
Jurors could not reach verdicts against Amandeep Johal, Mr Jagpal’s 22-year-old son-in-law, of Romsey Road, Southampton, who had denied affray and possessing a knife as an offensive weapon. The prosecution was given seven days to determine whether it would pursue a second hearing.
