CONTROVERSIAL nuclear submarine HMS Trafalgar is due to arrive in Southampton tomorrow.
The 280ft Royal Naval sub will dock at the city's high-risk berth - Z berth - around midday.
Protestors from action group Solent Coalition Against Ships (SCANS) are expected to greet the 5,000-tonne ship, which has not visited the city in over two years.
Di McDonald, of SCANS, said: "It is clearly inappropriate for nuclear submarines to sail into Southampton, a busy commercial port, putting at risk other ships, ferries, leisure craft and above all the people of Southampton.
"We are shocked the Navy still insists on using Southampton docks for a PR exercise they want to carry out."
The sub will be in port for five days on what the Navy have called an "official visit".
Trafalgar's Commanding Officer, Commander Charlie Shepherd, said: "I am delighted to bring HMS Trafalgar into Southampton, particularly as it is over two years since the previous submarine visit.
"My ship's company and I are very much looking forward to the visit and meeting with the people of Southampton and I am sure the sea cadets, scouts and college students will enjoy their tours of the vessel."
