A NEW Year’s Eve party came to an abrupt end for one Southampton family when their baby decided to make an early appearance.
Zuzanna Iliniec and husband Mirek were at a friend’s house enjoying the festivities when Zuzanna’a waters broke three weeks before her due date.
It was a mad dash to the hospital for the Polish family from Upper Shirley as eldest son Matt, 13, explained: “My dad came running in and said my mum’s waters had gone and I thought he was joking but there it was.
“A friend of ours then had to drive my mum to hospital, it was quite a shock.”
It was just two hours after being admitted to Princess Anne hospital that Zuzanna, 36, gave birth to 5lb 12oz baby daughter Monik just after 3am.
Monik was pipped to be the first baby born in Southampton in 2009 by the Kucharzyk family who are also from Poland.
Mateusz was delivered at 1.20am after a delivery that included the need for a blood transfusion to mum Beata, 25, who celebrated her birthday on New Year’s Eve – by being in labour.
Beata and husband Marcin are looking forward to taking their first born, who weighed 8lbs, home to Shirley, Southampton.
Joshua Brinn was also one of the first babies to be born in the city weighing in at 7lbs 4ozs. Mum Lisa Harvell, 28, from Netley had to undergo a caesarean but hours later both mum and baby were the picture of health.
Joshua is the first child for Lisa with her partner Gareth Brinn, 29. Ryan Green made history by being the first New Year baby to be born at the purpose-built New Forest Birth Centre that opened in Ashurst last year. After keeping parents Andrew, 30, and Anne-Marie, 23, waiting eight days past his due date, Ryan was in a bit of a rush to make his entrance taking less than two hours to be delivered just after 7am.
He is the New Milton couple’s first child weighing in at 6lbs 12ozs. “It all happened so quickly,” said Anne-Marie. “It is a bit special that he is the first New Year baby to be born here,” added Andrew.
