TODAY the Daily Echo is launching a campaign to find the unsung heroes of Southampton’s hospitals.
We have teamed up with Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust to track down the individuals who really make a difference to patients.
We want to find the dedicated doctors, nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, porters, receptionists and other hospital staff who have gone that extra mile to make people better.
Daily Echo readers can nominate anyone employed by the trust which runs Southampton General Hospital, the Princess Anne Hospital and Countess Mountbatten House, as well as some services at the Royal South Hants Hospital.
Some of the nominations will be featured in The Daily Echo over the coming weeks.
The winner of the Daily Echo Hospital Hero award will be presented with their award and special Echo prize at a special ceremony at Southampton’s Novotel on March 5.
That’s when hospital bosses will also give out their own hospital heroes awards including team awards for most improved service, outstanding achievement in infection control, environmental awareness and department of the year.
SUHT chief executive Mark Hackett said: “Our busy hospitals could not function without the hard work and dedication of our staff, who regularly go far beyond the call of duty to help patients, visitors and colleagues.
“I am delighted that some of our unsung heroes are to be featured in the Daily Echo and would encourage readers to write in with nominations to make sure that these special individuals get the recognition they deserve.”
The overall winner will be decided by a panel of Daily Echo judges. The closing date for entries is February 20.
