A HAMPSHIRE charity is looking for volunteers to be part of a Southampton sub-committee to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in the city.
The Variety Club children’s charity raises funds to provide life-changing equipment for children such as wheelchairs and sunshine coaches.
It currently has a Wessex committee with a number of volunteers that work to help children throughout Hampshire and Dorset.
A Southampton sub-committee would be used to organise fundraising events and help with the presentation of specific appeals.
Volunteer work could range from standing outside theatres and concert venues to organising charity balls and tribute lunches.
The Variety Club was set up in 1927 after a baby was discovered on the steps of a theatre in London’s West End and was cared for by members of the theatre.
Frances Cornelius, the Wessex Barker Committee secretary and treasurer, said: “We’re looking for any captains of industry in the city that feel they would like to put together a sub-committee to help with the wonderful work that the Variety Club does.
“The committee can assure people that once they are involved and see what we see, they will be passionate about what Wessex Variety Club achieves every year.”
Anyone interested in setting up or being part of a new Southampton sub-committee should contact Frances after 6pm on 01202 566581 or visit varietyclubwessex.co.uk.
