THE heartbroken parents of a young Hampshire man who died after jumping in front of a train are still coming to terms with his death more than a year later.
Ian and Lorraine Fox told the Daily Echo that they will never know why their son Dan committed suicide at Portchester railway station on December 30, 2007. Yesterday Portsmouth coroner David Horsley recorded that Mr Fox, 25, of Wickham Road, took his own life while suffering from depression.
He died of multiple injuries.
In a statement read at the inquest, the train driver described how he saw a person walk to the edge of platform and then jump on to the tracks directly in front of his train.
The inquest heard that Mr Fox had been taking medication for depression.
After the inquest his parents said: “We will never know why. It happened a year ago but it is still very hard and does not get any easier.”
