THE freezing weather conditions caused chaos on the south’s roads this morning.

The accidents came as temperatures plummented to minus six last night.

A woman had to be pulled from her upturned car by members of the public after it careered off a motorway and ended up in a ditch.

Two cars smashed through the side barrier of the southbound M271 after coming off the road at around 8am.

Both cars, a red Volkswagen Lupo and a white BMW, ended up on their sides in a ditch.

A woman driver was trapped in her car but was pulled free by members of the public.

Meanwhile two cars skidded on ice within moments of each other on the A32 northbound in Fareham, near Newgate Lane, shortly after 7.34am.

The red BMW and black Ford Fiesta both left the road. The two drivers were left shocked but unhurt.

A Peugeot 306 skidded on ice and ended up in a hedge in Wickham Road, Fareham, at 7.55am. The male driver was not injured.

A Renault Kangoo van skidded on ice on the slip road off the M27 at junction 10 for Fareham at 8.17am. The male driver was not injured.

Two cars collided with each other after skidding on ice in Gosport Road, Fareham, at 8.26am. The drivers of the blue Vauxhall and blue Citroen were not hurt, but police attended to help move one car that was left blocking one side of the road.

A Nissan Navara pick-up truck skidded on black ice and came off the slip road into the Sainsbury’s supermarket in Hedge End at 8.19am. The truck hit a sign and a tree and ended up in the ditch. The male driver was left shaken but uninjured.
