A NEW project aimed at giving young people who have left school and are out of work the opportunity to learn new skills and gain employment is being launched this week.
The UTurn scheme is aimed at 16- to 25-year-olds who are classed as NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) and who live in council accommodation on the Weston estate.
On Saturday, employment providers and trainers will be on hand at Chamberlayne Leisure Centre to offer information and support to young people on finding work experience, voluntary or paid work and accredited training.
There will also be workshops running throughout the day, organised by City Limits, on creative carpentry and restoring vehicles.
Francesca Prior, of City Limits, said: “This is the first time we have organised something like this for this age group and we hope that young people will take up the opportunity to come along and see what is available.”
There will also be free food for the first 150 young people to register at the event, that runs from 11am to 3pm.
