OVER fifty stores shut by Woolworths are to be bought by frozen food firm Iceland.
Iceland has bought 51 former Woolworths stores and plans to create 2,500 new jobs across the country.
However only one of these stores is in Hampshire.
The chain has bought the Ringwood store and will now transform it into a frozen food shop.
The announcement comes just days after Woolworths stores closed their doors for the very last time.
Iceland tried to buy all of the 815 Woolworths stores when it first went into adminstration but the company rejected their offer.
Three-quarters of the purchased stores are in the South of England.
They will join the current 682 Iceland stores throughout the UK, including those in Bitterne, Shirley and Portswood.
Below is a map of the local Woolworths stores that have been closed down recently.
