A MOTORIST charged with killing two Hampshire friends in a motorway crash has appeared in court.
Nigel Kirkham, 45, is charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the deaths of Zoe West, 34, and Victoria Pickering, 27.
The friends, who both lived in Gosport, were killed when their red Ford Escort was involved in a crash with a Vauxhall Astra, a lorry and a van on the M6 in Lancashire in July last year.
They were on their way to Scotland for a surprise visit to Miss Pickering’s parents.
Miss Pickering, who was a passenger in the Escort, died at the scene. Miss West sustained serious head injuries and died in hospital the following day.
Kirkham, from Derbyshire, was the driver of the van. He has appeared at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court but he did not enter a plea.
The case was committed to Lancaster Crown Court and will be heard on April 20.
