POLICE are reopening Redbridge Hill in Southampton following a crash involving a police car responding to a 999 call.
The patrol car was travelling with its flashing lights on when the accident happened this morning.
A spokesman said the incident, which involved a white Maxus van, is currently being investigated by officers from Totton's roads policing unit.
He added that the crash happened while both the van and the patrol car were travelling in the same direction, not a head on collision as they previously thought.
Three parked cars were also damaged as the patrol car and the white van collided on Redbridge Hill, Southampton.
One of the two police officers in the car and a member of the public both suffered minor injuries in the collision, which happened at 9.08am.
Scott Campbell, 36, a plumber, witnessed the accident, he said: "I was waiting at the traffic lights at Tebourba Way and I saw the police cars go flying over the junction with their lights and sirens on. I saw the council van turn right and it smashed right into one of them.
"It took the wheel off the van, looked quite nasty although I don't think there were any serious injuries."
Hampshire Constabulary is expected to begin its own enquiry into what happened today while the Independent Police Complaints Commission will also be informed.
Anyone with information about the incident at 9.08am is asked to call 0845 045 4545.
