DENSE fog is causing delays and frustration for passengers travelling through Southampton Airport today.
Flights in and out of the Eastleigh airfield have been delayed, diverted or cancelled because of the pea soup-like conditions.
Visibility has been reduced to just 200 hundred yards as the fog descended on the airport this morning.
The last plane to take off left at 8.47am - a Flybe flight to Jersey that was itself slightly delayed - but nothing has been able to leave the tarmac since.
Passengers headed to Paris, Belfast, Guernsey, Hanover, Geneva and Limoges are among those all now forced to wait for the fog to lift.
Planes due to arrive from Paris, Guernsey and Aberdeen have already been diverted elsewhere, while others from northern England, Scotland, Dublin and Amsterdam are also experiencing delays.
A spokeswoman for the airport said there is an average delay on flights of "no more than an hour".
"We're keeping an eye on the forecast, but advising passengers to check in as usual," she said.
