It’s a village where locals can enjoy the tranquillity of rural Hampshire life.
But people in Twyford have been given a rude awakening after their night-time peace was shattered.
Planes chartered by Premiership football team Portsmouth have woken villagers from their usually undisturbed slumber.
Now they are calling on Southampton Airport to put the brakes on night flights.
The row was sparked by Pompey’s failed foray into the Uefa Cup earlier this season. Many villagers were woken by the jet carrying the footballers home from a match in Germany. The club hired four planes for staff, players and fans, which landed in the early hours at Southampton Airport.
Residents of Twyford, near Winchester, which is on the flightpath, are now seeking reassurances that late-night touchdowns will not become regular.
A night flight is classed as between 11pm and 6am or before 7.30am on Sundays, and the airport is allowed up to ten each month or 100 per year.
City councillor Daryl Henry said: “My concern is that 100 flights a year is already a lot, and we don’t want any more.”
An airport spokesman said: “We recognise that these night flights may have caused a disturbance to some but we would like to reassure our neighbours that these flights will not be permanent additions to the schedule.”
The team was returning from a game at Wolfsburg in Germany, where they lost 3-2.
