AN ELDERLY shopper had more than £1,000 stolen from her handbag while she was shopping in a Hampshire supermarket.

Police have released CCTV images of the man they would like to speak to following the theft at Sainsbury's in Hedge End.

The woman, in her 60's, was shopping in the store between 3pm and 3.20pm, on Sunday January 11, when a man snatched a plastic bag from her handbag.

The bag contained around £1,200 in cash.

The thief was then seen running from the store and into a 4x4 style vehicle that was parked outside.

Officers investigating the case would like to speak to the man seen in the photographs, as he was in the store at the time and may hold vital information.
