HAMPSHIRE horse owners have been put on alert after being targeted in a spate of thefts across the county.

Hampshire police have received a string of reports of thefts in the last week and are urging owners to postcode their property.

Horse rugs, head collars and hoods are just some of the items taken from stables all over Hampshire.

Thieves stole equipment worth £100 used by Lisa Riddett, pictured, of Netley Marsh for her horse Pomperito.

Lisa, 33, said: “My two daughters were really upset.

“I’ve had horses for about ten years and I’ve never had anything like this happen.”

Annic Journeaux, Hampshire Horsewatch secretary, said: “By postcoding your equipment it makes it more difficult for thieves to sell it on. Anybody who feels someone is acting suspiciously can then report them to police.”

Anyone with information on equine theft can contact PC Alison Tilbury at Hythe police station on 0845 045 4545.
