THE term, “mature student”, could have been invented for Laura Morant.
The sprightly 103-year-old is proving it’s never too late to master a new skill. She’s excelling in weekly art classes provided by the college at the nursing home where she lives.
“I’m truly surprised by what I’ve achieved and the wonderful comments about my work,” she said.
Art tutor, Shaun Stevens, said: “Laura’s work is of an excellent standard, especially as she has only been learning for a year.”
Laura, who lives at the Forest Court nursing home, Calmore, is not the oldest learner in the college’s history. That honour went to Fred Moore, who was 108 when he enrolled in one of the classes at its education and training centre in New Milton.
