POLICE are to launch a crackdown on pavement cyclists in a second Southampton neighbourhood.
They are to target Portswood after declaring a similar scheme to stop people cycling illegally in Shirley a success.
Eight officers and Police Community Support Officers, along with a member of the Council’s City Patrol Team, will be out in force on Saturday.
Beat Officer for St Denys and Bevois Valley, David King, said: “We expect all cyclists to ride their bikes on the road not the pavement unless it’s a shared cycle path. They should also obey all road signs and have a front and back light on when it is dark.”
A police spokesman said that in most cases officers will warn cyclists about their actions but reserve the right to issue £30 fines if necessary.
