A BANK was sealed off today after a woman was found with a serious head injury.
She was discovered in the lobby of the Lloyds TSB bank in Lyndhurst High Street at 5.30am when a man went in to use the cash machine.
The woman, thought to be aged in her early sixties, had a serious injury to the front of her head.
She was taken to Southampton General Hospital and will be given a CT scan to determine if she has suffered a fractured skull.
A police spokesman said: "She was conscious when she was found but hasn't been able to tell police how she got the injury. There were no signs of a struggle."
Police cordoned off the bank and sealed off nearby rubbish bins. They hope to talk to the woman later today to establish what happened.
Detective Sergeant Andy Lupton of Lyndhurst CID said: "At this stage it is not clear how the woman's injury was caused. We are carrying out a number of enquiries to confirm whether a crime has taken place or whether the woman fell and was unable to get help."
Anyone who may information is urged to contact CID at Lyndhurst police station on 0845 045 4545 Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
