IF one of your New Year’s resolutions was to make 2009 the year that you find someone special, there’s some good news. There are now more singles events than ever in the area, giving you lots more opportunities to find love – or at least have some fun looking for it.
The monthly Single in the City nights, held in association with the Daily Echo, were launched in September at Dock Gate 4 bar and grill. Held on the last Thursday of the month at the Southampton venue, these free party nights generally feature a women-only section, where they can learn a new skill which may boost their onfidence, before the doors open to men.
This month’s event, taking place on January 29, will offer women a burlesque taster lesson. Keep an eye on this section for more details.
Speed dating remains a popular way to meet people and there are lots of options to choose from. Quad Speed Dating has recently been launched in Lyndhurst.
Aimed at professional people over 40, the night offers a bit of a twist, with a belly dancing display, which might help break the ice and give you something to talk about.
The Theatre Royal Winchester also has a speed dating night in March aimed at those aged 35 to 50.
Slowdating is continuing its programme of speed dating events in Southampton, with two events each month aimed at different age groups. Singletons in their 20s and 30s who are wondering what they’re going to do on Valentine’s Day should take note – they’re holding a speed dating event on February 14.
Winchester Discovery Centre is also holding a speed dating night on Valentine’s Day, aimed at the 35 to 50 age bracket. The centre is also holding speed dancing events and read dating. At speed dancing you get to dance with different partners as well as learning how to move to the Latin rhythms of Salsa. At read dating you move from partner to partner and chat about books – great news for bookworms looking for someone with a shared interest or just those who find the prospect of having ten to 20 conversations about themselves in an evening a bit daunting.
Singles social group Singles that Mingle expanded from Dorset into Hampshire last year. The events are as much for single people to get out, enjoy themselves and make new friends as they are for people to find love.
There’s generally one event in Hampshire a month – the next one offers another alternative for Valentine’s Day, with a dinner and drinks evening being held at La Margherita. Other events include wine tasting and quiz nights.
Sarah’s Singles Events also holds a range of evenings. These include an over-30s dance party in Hythe in March.
With so many different singles activities taking place, h o p e f u l l y you’ll be able to find one that suits you – and maybe even find “the one” while you’re there.
