FIRE chiefs have issued a fresh warning after an aerosol canister exploded in Hampshire, days after a similar incident.
Last night a Portsmouth mother and son had to be treated for smoke inhalation and burns when an aerosol stored under their kitchen sink exploded.
Last week an Eastleigh man suffered burns to his face after leaving an aerosol can too close to a cooker.
In December there was an explosion at a Southampton home when an aerosol canister was put next to an electric heater in the bathroom.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Most of us will have many aerosol cans in various locations around the home.
"Almost every room in the house may contain some kind of aerosol, be it furniture polish, hairspray, or antiperspirant.
"What must always be remembered is the fact that they can be extremely dangerous if they are not stored and treated with care.
"This latest incident once again highlights the need for people to be extra vigilant when handling and storing aerosol cans, as they are extremely dangerous items.
"Even a single aerosol causes untold damage if an accident occurs.
"Most aerosol cans are extremely flammable, whether they are full or empty, and can become dangerously explosive in the wrong hands, or if mistreated."
