FIREFIGHTERS responded to a 999 call reporting smoke billowing from a Hampshire school – but found it was steam coming from the swimming pool.
Crews were called just before 11.30pm on Wednesday to Wildern School in Hedge End.
On closer inspection they found the “smoke” was in fact steam coming from the indoor pool.
A spokesman for Hightown fire station said: “This was a genuine call and we don’t mind turning out to this type of false alarm – we would never want people to be deterred from calling if they believe it could be an emergency.”
