FEARS are growing for a Hampshire man who has not been seen since trekking on Mount Everest four weeks ago.

Julian Wynne was last seen as he set off alone on a trail towards the base camp of the mountain in Nepal.

With no contact from him since December 22, his mum Pat Wynne, from Fareham, is desperate to hear from her son, who turned 33 on Wednesday.

The keen traveller left England for India in October with his friend Lee Jeffries, as they started a nine-month trip.

But the pair split up when they decided to take different paths through the Cho La region and Namche, towards Everest’s base camp.

Julian’s family has set up an email address for people to contact with any news or sightings of their loved one.

His mother Pat Wynne, of Beaufort Avenue, Fareham, Hampshire, said: ''We are getting more and more worried as time is passing.

''There's nothing we can do. We are trying all the avenues open to us but all we want is for him to be safe and sound and to let us know he's ok.''

She said Mr Wynne's brother-in-law Greg Crowter had flown to Nepal from his home in Australia and was currently trekking to Everest to search for him.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said: ''I can confirm that we are aware of a British national missing person in Nepal and we are in touch with next of kin and providing consular assistance.''

The family have set up an email address for anyone with information about Mr Wynne's whereabouts. The address is findjulianwynne If you have any information about Julian’s whereabouts email findjulianwynne@hotmail.co.uk.
