WITH his two canine pals Ges Laker is about to go walkies.
But this is not just a stroll in the park.
The 53-year-old will be setting off from his home village of Warsash on a walking adventure which will take a year and will cover every inch of the British coastline.
His marathon coastal trek starts on January 31 and his only companions will be his two black Labradors, Phoebe, aged six and her two year-old son Sumo.
But Ges says: “Walking with two dogs will probably mean that people will come up and have a chat.
“I plan to be self sufficient and I will be doing a lot of fishing on the way.”
Father-of-two Ges, who spent 20 years in the Royal Navy added: “I will probably walk about 20 miles a day but I am not out to break any records.”
There will be very little creature comforts on a journey covering about 7,000 miles. At night Ges and his canine companions will sleep in a tent.
His fundraising trek will boost the funds of the St Dunstan’s Charity which supports blind exservice men and women to become self-sufficient, regain their optimism and make the most of their opportunities.
The self-employed landscape gardener has set up his own website called Lakers Coastline where people can make donations and they can also log on to his daily blog to follow the progress of his nationwide walk.
Through various fund raising activities, backed by the local community, he has already raised more than £5,000.
Ges, who will be going anticlockwise around Britain, plans to have a hearty breakfast at the Jolly Farmer at Warsash on January 31 before setting off at 9 am.
At the same tome Fareham MP Mark Hoban will officially start a separate sponsored walk which is part of the fundraising. Ges is inviting people to join him on the first leg of his walk to the Gosport Ferry.
