A Hampshire businessman in his early 40s. Married for four years.

SUBJECT: Client B’s wife, 28.

BACKGROUND: Client B noticed a change in his wife’s behaviour when she started spending her evenings on the Internet, chatting to a friend who had recently split up with her partner. Client B became more concerned when he spotted photos of young men in their 20s and 30s on his wife’s laptop. When confronted, she said she was helping her friend get back on the dating scene using mysinglefriend.com, which allows friends to check out suitable prospective partners for their single pals. Three weeks later, Client B was worried about the amount of activity involved setting up dates with people who lived in Hampshire and Guildford in Surrey. He came to us.

MISSION: To find out what Client B’s wife is up to. Will she be tempted by another man online?

PHASE 1: We recruit one of our 24-year-old freelance Honeytrap agents to contact Client B’s wife via the online dating site. She emails our agent, asking for his mobile number, and says her single friend will text him. The same day our agent starts receiving texts. Then he gets a call from a female – supposedly the “single friend”. They arrange to meet in a pub.

Meanwhile, Client B suspects his wife may also have a second mobile phone after finding a top-up voucher for a phone network neither he or his wife are connected to. Two weeks later, the first meeting between the agent and his female caller is scheduled. When the “single friend” arrives she is, in fact, Client B’s wife.

Our agent wears a body wire and records several hours of chat in which Client B’s wife claims to be single and describes her “previous partner” as “a lot older” and “a boring, workaholic business type”. She then says he is “getting fat and losing his hair”.

PHASE 2: We arrange a second honeytrap in which we secretly film our agent and Client B’s wife getting intimate in a car. Client B turns up and confronts his wife in the car park.

OUTCOME: Client B’s wife tries to come up with an excuse but we have enough audio and visual evidence of her infidelity for Client B to end their marriage.
