A busy commuter route has been closed following a multi-vehicle accident that occurred in icy conditions.

A lorry and four other vehicles were involved in the incident, which occurred on the A35 at Holmsley, near New Milton, just after 9am.

A police spokesman said no-one was injured in the pile-up.

However, he added that the road was blocked by damaged vehicles spread over a 100-metre stretch of the road and long tailbacks were building up in the area.

The Forest was hit by a spate of accidents caused by fog and black ice. At one point police were dealing with seven separate incidents.
