MCDONALD’S at Ower is getting a green makeover.
Steve Radford, owner and operator of the burger restaurant, is making six-figure investment in the business and the upgrade includes fitting solar panels to the roof and installing waterless urinals.
Ower is believed be the first McDonald’s in England to have solar power.
It’s not yet known what proportion of the restaurant’s power the panels will be able to supply and Mcdonalds say it will be monitoring their efficiency carefully.
The waterless urinals use a special funnel and syphon system to hygienically collect all waste and odour.
The eating area at Ower has also changed, adopting the new McDonald’s ‘Purely Simple’ design, created by French style guru Philippe Avanzi.
This uses a mix of vibrant and natural tones with bold shapes. There will also be a new alfresco dining area.
Steve, who also owns McDonald’s in Salisbury, Andover, Totton and Ferndown, commented: “McDonald’s is a progressive, forward-thinking business so it was only a matter of time before the company began rolling out a variety of environmentally-friendly initiatives.
I was particularly keen to get this under way in Ower and the results are impressive.
“My staff and I are thrilled with the fantastic new design.
The changes are not just aesthetic but highly practical and we are very proud that our restaurant is the first in England to use solar power.”
