SHE’S so special she changes people’s outlook on life.

That’s how one neighbour describes 70-year-old grandmother Valerie Williams.

The Lordswood mum-of-three is always on hand to pick up shopping, take someone to hospital or just pop in and cheer someone up in the middle of the day.

It is for this reason her neighbour Margaret Cameron, 76, nominated Valerie for the Daily Echo Good Neighbour Campaign.

Valerie said she’d enjoyed helping people all her life: “I’ve always tried to do what I can and it gives me a great deal of pleasure.

“I really enjoy spending time with Margaret and my other neighbours and I know if I ever needed anything they’d be there for me.”

Margaret said her neighbour never stops thinking of other people and putting them first.

She said: “She does so much for people. I don’t think she’s ever refused to help someone who needed her.

“I’ve bought her flowers and made her cups of tea to try and repay her but I couldn’t think of a way to thank her enough and then I read about the campaign.

“She’s lovely and it really changes people’s perspectives on life to know there are people out there who are so caring and so happy.”

Do you know someone like Valerie? If so we want to hear your stories. The Daily Echo Good Neighbour Campaign was launched earlier this month after plummeting temperatures and Siberian winds whipped the county and put the vulnerable at risk.
