A SOUTHAMPTON man has become the first person in Britain to gain a national vocational qualification (NVQ) in archaeological practice.
Ben Jervis completed the programme, which is being funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund, after specialising in medieval pottery at Southampton museums.
The qualification is designed to help newcomers to the profession and amateur archaeologists to gain accredited skills, through practical experience and study.
Ben, 23, who is now undertaking a PhD course at the University of Southampton, said he was “ecstatic” to be the first person to receive the NVQ.
