DETECTIVES have this morning arrested a man following a fight that left a soldier unconscious in hospital.
Chris Jones was left with a fractured skull and bruising to his body after trouble broke out in the Chapel Arms pub as Saints took on Cardiff at St Mary's.
Officers this morning arrested the 20-year-old local man at his home in Southampton, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and have taken him into custody for questioning.
Cardiff fan Chris, 21, whose girlfriend is due to give birth to their first child in just a matter of days, yesterday opened his eyes as doctors started to reduce his medication.
He is being treated at Southampton General Hospital's Wessex neuro unit, which specialises in severe head injuries.
It's understood the trouble, which broke out around 3.30pm last Saturday, involved a small number of people and spilled out onto the street where Chris suffered a blow to the head before falling to the ground.
Anyone with information is asked to call Shirley CID on 0845 045 4545.
