Officers say a small group of people were involved in a brawl in Elm Avenue, Pennington, shortly after midnight last night.
The injured man was taken to Southampton General Hospital with what police describe as serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Two 18-year-olds from the Lymington area have been arrested in connection with the incident and are in custody at Lyndhurst police station.
Det Sgt Andy Lupton said: "Incidents of this nature are rare in the New Forest and we are treating this as an isolated incident.
"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed what happened or heard the assault take place to contact us as soon as possible."
