ANDY Burrows the Winchester born drummer with hit group Razorlight has quit the popular rock band.

After five years with the band, who released their third album last year, Andy has walked out with rumours it was due to bitter clashes with frontman Johnny Borrell.

The band, who are joint headliners with the Stereophonics for the Saturday night slot of this summer's Isle of Wight Festival, had a number one hit in 2006 with their song America - with reports the two clashed over who had written the track.

Last year Andy also released a solo album with proceeds going to Hampshire's Naomi House Children's Hospice.

Last night the band's website confirmed the split, saying Andy wanted a quieter life away from their hectic touring schedule.

New York drummer David 'Skully' Sullivan-Kaplan will take over the drums for Razorlight's live shows until the end of the year.

Speaking on the band's website, Andy said: "The past five years in Razorlight have been an amazing experience.

"I am very proud of everything that myself, Johnny, Carl and Bjorn have achieved together but for personal reasons I have decided to leave the band. I will be pursuing other musical ventures."

Johnny Borrell added: "Over the last two albums and five years Andy has been an integral part of Razorlight and we will miss him," says Johnny."From the day he walked into our rehearsal studio it was obvious that he was an amazing drummer and he's contributed on many levels beyond that. He's been a great player and a great friend and I think we'll both always be proud of the music we've made together. As far as the bands future is concerned we're all looking forward to touring with Skully and getting on with making our next record".
