A MAN arrested by police over a street fight which left a soldier fighting for his life in Southampton has been released on bail.
Detectives quizzed the 20-year-old local man in connection with the incident that left Chris Jones with a fractured skull and bruising to his body.
He was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been released until May 14 as the investigation continues.
Mr Jones, 21, is being treated at Southampton General Hospital’s Wessex neuro unit, which specialises in severe head injuries.
The Cardiff City fan was injured when trouble broke out in Anderson’s Road at about 3.30pm last Saturday, while Saints were playing Cardiff at St Mary’s.
Police are still keen to speak to witnesses.
A police spokeswoman said: “We have spoken to a lot of people about the incident which happened last Saturday, but there could always be someone who has yet to come forward and may hold some vital information.”
