A HAMPSHIRE mum has told how she was “robbed” of a last cuddle with her baby.
Michelle Thorn hit out at the mistakes made by emergency services the night her 16-month old daughter died from MRSA.
She says confusion between paramedics and police officers on the tragic night left her unable to cope with the loss of her youngest child, Lilie.
As reported in yesterday’s Daily Echo, Lilie Mae Thorn died after contracting MRSA after surgery for a birth defect known as claw hands, despite being given a clean bill of health by her doctor hours earlier.
An inquest heard how no one could have prevented her death, but a mix up between police and paramedics, called to the family home in Pennington, led to Lilie remaining in an ambulance for more than an hour, instead of being taken to hospital.
When she was finally taken to Southampton General Hospital, her body was transferred straight to the mortuary, instead of the accident and emergency department where there are staff and facilities to help grieving families say goodbye to loved ones.
“I would never want anyone to go through what we did,” Michelle told the Daily Echo. “All I wanted to do was hold my baby and give her a cuddle, but they told me I couldn’t hold her. They robbed me of the last cuddle with my baby and I have never been able to get over that.”
