NO charges are to be pressed against two Saints stars arrested earlier this month on suspicion of affray and assault.

After consultation from police, the Crown Prosecution Service has decided not to lay charges against strikers David McGoldrick and Bradley Wright-Phillips.

The pair had been quizzed over an alleged incident outside The Giddy Bridge pub, in London Road, in the early hours of February 7.

Saints head coach Mark Wotte said: “I am happy for the boys to no longer have this hanging over them.

"We offered the two players our full support throughout the case and we will now continue to keep focused on our football and the challenges ahead, starting with the game against QPR tomorrow.”

A police statement said: “An investigation by Hampshire Constabulary has now concluded into an allegation of assault which occurred at the junction of London Road and Cumberland Place between 2am and 2.15am on Saturday, February 7.

“A 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old man were arrested in early March on suspicion of affray and common assault and released at the time on bail pending further enquiries.

“Those further enquiries have now been carried out and following consultation between the police and the Crown Prosecution Service the two men have been told they no longer have to answer bail and will have no further action taken against them in relation to this matter.

“Both men have been spoken to again to inform them of the outcome.”
