POLICE are investigating how cash came to be blowing in the wind in Alresford.
An honest passer-by gathered up £405 in notes and handed it into the local police station.
The 48-year-old woman was walking along West Street, near to the junction with Station Road, when she saw banknotes fluttering around her.
She was joined by six or seven other people who all helped to collect the money.
PC Clive Barham said: “At this time of day there would have been a lot people walking and driving in Alresford town centre, so it is likely that there were many witnesses to this incident.
“At this time we are trying to establish who the money belongs to, where it may have come from, and how it came to be blowing about in Alresford town.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident and the other people who gathered the money to get in touch with us.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident that happened last Tuesday at 4.45pm to get in touch.
They should contact PC Barham at Bishop’s Waltham police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
