Hampshire teenager Tom Rule has flown into the record books after becoming the country’s youngest solo pilot on his sixteenth birthday.
In his Piper Warrior aircraft he soared into the sky with ease and finished his flight with a textbook landing.
Up until now Tom has always had an instuctor by his side in the cockpit but this time he took over the controls of the single engine aircraft himself.
The Wildern School pupil clocked up 23 flying hours in preparation for the solo circuit of the Old Sarum Airfield, near Salisbury, securing his place in the Guinness Book of Records.
