ROAD safety schemes start today on two of Hampshire’s busiest routes.
Workmen will be replacing the bridge bearings on the A33 Millbrook and Redbridge flyovers in Southampton.
The £2.7m project, which is expected to take nine months, will disrupt traffic in both directions when lane restrictions and 30mph speed limits come into force at the end of next month.
It is the latest in a series of works that have crippled the busy road. But city council chiefs insist once completed, no “major maintenance” to the flyovers will be needed for 30 years.
Elsewhere, hatching and anti-skid surfacing will be extended at the junction of the A326 and Twiggs Lane in Marchwood, where a 51-year-old biker was killed.
Hampshire County Council is also planning to improve other safety features, including signs and bollards.
