A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following a fire.
The 38-year-old woman was arrested initially on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
However after a man who was in the property in East Cowes, on the Isle of Wight died, she was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police say they are not yet in a position to identify the dead man.
A post-mortem is due to take place today at St. Mary's hospital in Newport.
The fire happened at a flat in Well Road, East Cowes, around 2.30am on Sunday morning.
Safer Neighbourhoods Team officers from East Cowes are carrying out extra patrols to reassure the community about the fire, which is being treated as an isolated incident by the police.
The scene of the fire in Well Road, East Cowes remains sealed off today to allow for further investigations.
Anyone with information or who may have seen anything suspicious in the Well Road area of East Cowes on Saturday night or during the early hours of Sunday morning is asked to contact Newport Police Station on 0845 045 45 45, or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
