A 100-year-old great-grandmother says her secret to a long life is a laid back attitude and a few sips of sherry.
Surrounded by 40 friends and family former parlourmaid Edith Judd opened many cards including one from the Queen.
The mum-of-one celebrated her birthday with a party and a DJ in her home.
She said: “I’ve enjoyed the first 100 and I’m looking forward to the second.”
Edith was born in Bitterne and went to the village school and has spent most of her life in Hampshire.
For years she lived in Bramshaw in the New Forest and she is now at The Poplars retirement home, in Bassett.
Edith is a skilled whilst player and used to dominate local competitions.
Asked about the secret of a long life she said: “I take life as it comes and I’m unlikely to refuse a drop of sherry.”
