A MAN wanted by police for the rape of a teenage girl may be in Hampshire.
Lawrence Stringer, was charged on September 4, 2008 after a 14-year-old girl was attacked the previous month.
Stringer, 50, from Stalybridge, was released on conditional bail and due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on February 19.
He broke the conditions of his bail and has now gone on the run.
He contacted his family on Saturday, March 7, from the Portsmouth area but has not spoken to anyone since.
Stringer is described as white, about 5ft 9in tall, of slim build with short dark hair, which is receding and a Manchester accent.
His face and neck are heavily scarred from a fire. He was last seen wearing beige tracksuit pants, a beige zip up jacket and a green woolly hat with a red gap logo on the front.
He is thought to be travelling around the country on foot and by public transport and sleeping rough. He is also believed to be with his pet, a small dog.
Anyone that may have seen him or has any information about his whereabouts is urged not to approach him, but to contact police.
