ROCK bad boy Pete Doherty is unlikely to be invited back to Southampton Guildhall any time soon after he refused to leave the stage at his gig.

Venue bosses had to literally pull the plug on the singer after he caused the show to run well beyond the venue’s strict 11pm curfew.

Even without electricity, with the stage lights switched off and the house lights up Doherty still played on.

He also lit a cigarette on stage and told the audience he would have to forfeit his fee for the sake of a smoke.

In bizarre scenes, the notorious singer nearly caused a riot with objects being hurled between him and the crowd.

Doherty claims to have quit hard drugs, but he appears to have discovered another vice – Guinness.

Despite delighting fans with a stunning solo acoustic show, the former Libertines and Babyshambles frontman was swigging back pints of the Irish tipple throughout.

He told fans his on-stage cigarette had cost him £15,000 and then ignored all attempts to end his show as it passed the 11pm mark.

Guildhall operations manager Les Turner told the Daily Echo he was ‘nervous’ when the support acts were on stage and Pete was late arriving.

He said: “He can turn up when he wants but he will be off that stage at 11pm sharp – we’ve got a police station right behind us!”

Doherty’s tour manager walked on stage at 10.55pm to tell him to play just one more song, but party-spirited Pete brazenly played on for a further 25 minutes while hurling abuse at security staff.

Fans hurled everything from drinks to handbags and the former boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss threw drinks back.

A row erupted around the mixing desk between Mr Turner and Doherty’s sound technicians as he repeatedly demanded they stop the show.

Finally Mr Turner pulled the plug on the sound system leaving an unamplified Doherty still singing for the cheering crowd.

The house lights had long gone up and all stage lighting had been extinguished but Doherty just did not want to go home!

Those who had feared the rock star would fail to show at all were treated to a full two hours of Doherty and his guitar as he refused to short-change them for his late arrival.

One concert-goer told the Daily Echo: “As we left there was chanting, banging walls and singing. It was like a football match and I’ve never seen a crowd act like that at a gig.

It was amazing.”

Yesterday a spokesman for Southampton Guildhall declined to comment.

Southampton City Council, which is responsible for licensing the Live Nation venue, did not receive any complaints.

Doherty’s agent also declined to comment.
