A SECTION of Southampton's council offices had to be evacuated this afternoon after a fire broke out in its basement.
Council workers were evacuated from Marland House in Civic Centre Road after smoke was discovered billowing from the building at 1.25pm.
Equipped with breathing apparatus, firefighters from St Mary's fire station used dry powder as well as the unit's special equipment unit to extinguish the fire.
A spokesman for the service said the fire was due to an electrical fault in the ducting.
