TRADERS, shoppers and motorists are all being invited to have their say over controversial plans for a shake up of parking provisions in Romsey.
Town councillors are asking residents to attend their next planning committee meeting to air views over a proposed re-allocation of long stay and short stay parking areas. As previously reported, transport bosses want to cut the number of cheaper long-stay spaces by more than a third across four town centre car parks – Newton Lane, Broadwater Road, Crosfield Hall and Princes Road.
But the Test Valley Borough Council scheme – aimed at freeing up short stay provision and boosting trade in the town centre - has already divided opinion.
Some fear the alteration could lead to residential roads being clogged up by motorists trying to park for free.
But the town’s Chamber of Commerce has backed the proposal claiming the changes will boost trade.
A public exhibition of the plans is set to take place on Tuesday at Test Valley Borough Council’s offices in Duttons Road.
The Town Council planning committee meeting takes place on Tuesday April 8 at 8.15pm.
