MORNINGS are becoming a lot more fun. Ben, thank goodness, has started to come around to the idea of not disturbing his mum and dad until around 6.30am – a vast improvement on the 5.30am wake up call we were enduring.

He also went through a phase of waking up in a stinker of a mood. These days it is much more entertaining. It is an absolute lottery as to what state his room will be in when we open the door, however.

I think he may well still be waking up early but he has the decency not to start getting aggravated by our lack of attention until a good half an hour later.

I know this to be true as I can hear him amusing himself by talking to Iggle Piggle and the paintings on the wall for a good while.

When he loses interest in the one-way conversation, I fear Iggle Piggle then gets launched over the side of the cot along with anything else that comes to hand.

His other party trick is leaning out of his cot and turning his dimmer switch right up so when we open the door we are met with a full on blaze of light.

Should we leave his door slightly ajar, he has sussed out how to get his little paws around the door handle and swing it open, so his cries of mummy and daddy can be more easily heard. His dad mentioned that perhaps his entire bedroom would have to be rearranged to ensure all distractions were out of reach. I greeted this with short shrift.

My point is that he should just have to learn not to.

I mean the boy can’t go his whole life having things put out of reach until further notice. He would think he was never growing up as everything was constantly just out of his grasp. As a boy who is likely to be on the small side anyway given his parents’ lack of stature, I don’t want to add to the lad’s complex.
