A CONTINGENT of police officers from Hampshire will be helping with the major security operation at next month’s G20 summit.
Specialist teams are being deployed to the capital as leaders from the world’s 20 richest countries descend on London’s Docklands on April 2.
Among the high profile names attending the summit will be President Barack Obama, pictured, on his first ever official engagement in the UK, with delegations from across the world arriving in Britain from March 31.
Police officers from the county will provide specialist skills in areas including close protection. Four members of the force’s protestor removal team will also be sent to London as well as a unit trained in reacting to and dealing with public order incidents.
Hampshire’s is one of many forces being required to provide extra support for the mass policing operation.
Senior police fear they could face two days of unprecedented action from anarchist and environmental groups who will use the occasion to protest in the capital.
