A FOOTBALL fan who was left fighting for his life after a punch-up outside a Southampton pub has become a dad for the first time.
Chris Jones’s girlfriend Kathryn Andrews gave birth to their little boy just 24 hours after he was released from hospital.
Weighing seven pounds, little Jaydon entered the world in the same Cardiff hospital where his father will now undergo extensive physio as he recovers from his injuries sustained outside the Chapel Arms pub in Albert Road North.
It was during the afternoon of February 28 when Chris, from Pontyclun, South Wales, was in the city having travelled down with a group of fellow Cardiff City fans to see his team take on Saints.
But after being refused entry to the stadium he returned to the pub where trouble flared shortly after.
Outside, Chris suffered a blow to the head and then fell to the ground. He was taken to Southampton general hospital where he spent days unconscious in a specialist head injury unit.
Chris’s stepfather Roy Underhill said Chris was delighted to have seen his son born.
“He’s a little confused still, but he’s delighted to have seen his son born back home in Wales and also to be there to cut the cord. It’s remarkable that 24 hours after he was released from hospital we have had yet more fantastic news.”
Detectives investigating the incident have arrested two men in connection with the assault who are currently on bail pending further enquiries.
