POLICE have shut a quiet Hampshire cul-de-sac at its junction with a busy main road following a hit-and-run incident last night.
A man is today receiving treatment in the neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital, after suffering "serious" injuries in the collision, which happened some time between 11.30pm and 11.45pm.
Police have not released the identity of the man, but say his family have been informed.
Officers say they do not know what vehicle hit him, and with the victim still in too serious a condition to give any information, they are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward as they try to piece together what happened.
A team of police officers are today still at the scene in Claudeen Close, off Wide Lane, Swaythling.
Four police cars and an incident response van are currently in the road, which is cordoned off at its junction with Wide Lane, with officers looking at a Rover car which has been parked on a kerb.
An area of the road, in front of a row of garages, has been coned off.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0845 045 4545.
